Rules and Resources

The Landmarks Preservation Commission Rules set forth the Commission's application and public hearing procedures, and the rules and standards for work on buildings in historic districts and individual landmarks.

The LPC Rules are found in Title 63 of the Rules of the City of New York, available through an online portal that contains all of the city rules, as well as the City Charter and the Administrative Code. You can also access a PDF version of the LPC Rules.

Proposed work that meets the rules will be approved by the LPC staff. If proposed work does not meet the rules, the application must be reviewed by the full Commission at a public hearing.

To assist owners of landmark buildings and sites, LPC has created manuals that explain these rules and regulations, as well as guides for how to get permits for work as quickly as possible. See our Permit Application Guide, Technical Resources, Rules and Master Plans, and Storefronts pages to learn more.
